Interview – sorta

This is less an interview and more… applying? I dunno. Weird enough to post. I had a call from HR at a reputable large company you likely know. They left a voicemail because I was legitimately busy in a videoconference; if I recall it was a R.26 conference, not anything important, but something you have to check the box on, and at this point, we all just sit on the phone or zoom and nod agreement most of the time anyway with one or two quick corrections. Anyway…

My cell phone silently rang and it went to voicemail somewhere around 11 AM. My day was unusually busy and I did the usual routine that I picked up from I think literally every law firm I’ve ever worked at… if busy, everything goes to voicemail and check it at 4pm to see if it was important and needs a call back before the end of business.

I get the voicemail asking me to call HR to talk and schedule an interview and they look forward to speaking with me. I checked the time, it was slightly past 4:30. Late enough that either no one would be there, they would be headed for the door, or even if I did catch someone, there would be no time to talk. I mentally made a note to call at 9 AM the next morning.

8 AM I get a rejection email. I briefly mulled this over, and figured what the hell. I called anyway. Got voicemail, left a message. They never returned the call. So I went from a candidate to rejected in under 24 hours, because they called during my workday. I’m honestly not sure what to think about that.
